House Of Past
"House of Past" by Avanti Nioding is a compelling tale that delves into the depths of memory and haunting experiences. The story follows Anya, a young university student struggling with betrayals and a complicated past. What starts as an introspective retreat soon transforms into a vivid reliving of her past, and with it, a confrontation with old specters she has long tried to forget. The author skillfully explores themes of betrayal, memory, and the impact of past traumas on one's present life. Nioding's writing style is evocative and immersive, drawing readers into Anya's world of forgotten friendships, painful losses, and enduring love. The narrative shifts between past and present seamlessly, creating a sense of timelessness and interconnectedness that enhances the storytelling.
The setting a return to her childhood home becomes almost a character in itself. Abandoned and isolated, the house is laden with a sense of both nostalgia and dread, symbolizing Anya’s unhealed wounds and lingering fears. According to me nostalgia can be very cruel to people at times and that was depicted in this story. I really liked how author ties Anya’s present with her past through haunting imagery and dreamlike sequences, illustrating her journey between her 23-year-old self and her 13-year-old self. Being a psychology student myself, I really like how brilliantly author has written this book.
This is a haunting and introspective read that will captivate fans of psychological thrillers and mysteries. It’s a book that will resonate with those who have experienced betrayal or struggled with mental health, and it leaves readers pondering the power of memory and the necessity of truly confronting one’s past in order to heal. Nioding's exploration of the complexities of memory and the human psyche makes this book a thought-provoking and engaging literary work.
